Tough Enough To Wear Pink

Are you tough enough to wear pink? With the help of the La Pine Rodeo Association, a group of sponsors have come together and started a tough enough to wear pink day. This will start a new tradition this year for the rodeo. Sunday’s performance at 1:00 pm will be designated as “Pink day”.
The color pink is not something you would usually associate with the tough sport of rodeo; however, cancer has touched the lives of many rodeo and western lifestyle families. Rodeo committees, western event producers and western manufacturers have joined together to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. Tough enough to wear pink, La Pine and its sponsors are pleased to join those who have already gotten behind this campaign and the momentum continues to build.
The Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign is the brainchild of Terry Wheatley, a breast cancer survivor, and Karl Stressman, Director of Special Events for Wrangler. "Breast cancer has touched us personally. We put our heads together to think of a way we could make a difference and TETWP was born," said Wheatley. "We weren't sure if we could convince the cowboys to wear pink but, yes, they proved they are tough enough."
Why is TETWP So Successful and What Exactly is a Pink Event?
The fact that there is no template or exact answer to the question is perhaps the biggest contributing factor to the success of the TETWP campaign.
TETWP is whatever you want to make it. Each “pink promotion” is different and unique. They have their own flavor, their own components incorporated such that they meet the needs and character of each participating rodeo.
This being the first pink event for La Pine Rodeo, we hope to bring awareness to folks regarding the disease of cancer, and the need to help those who are fighting a disease that shows no partiality.
