June 18, 2009: The 4th of July holiday weekend in Central Oregon will officially begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd at The Tower Theatre in Downtown Bend with a screening of the science fiction classic, INDEPENDENCE DAY. Originally released on July 3, 1996, the Academy Award winning film stars Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum.
INDEPENDENCE DAY, or ID4 as it is also known to film buffs, is one of the biggest box office hits of all time. It is a pyrotechnic, futuristic, disaster, action adventure about aliens attacking Earth and humans rallying together to give them the boot. The spectacle begins when massive spaceships appear in Earth's skies. But wonder turns to terror as the ships blast destructive beams of fire down on cities all over the planet. The world's only hope lies with a determined band of survivors, uniting for one last strike against the invaders - before it is the end of all mankind. In the vein of science fiction classics like WAR OF THE WORLDS and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and a host of disaster movies from TOWERING INFERNO to METEOR, ID4 maintains a mission to entertain with dazzling special effects and unabashed feel-good charm.
INDEPENDENCE DAY is being sponsored, in part, by Horizon Broadcasting Group. In addition to complimentary tickets being awarded on the station to ID4 trivia question winners, Dave Clemens from The Peak 104.1 will be emceeing the evening. So, make your plans now to re-experience INDEPENDENCE DAY July 3rd at The Tower Theatre on the big screen. You can purchase your tickets either at the theatre box office or by visiting www.towertheatre.org.
