National Forest officials plan a large controlled burn southeast of Bend near Coyote Butte sometime next week. Helicopters will be used to start the burn. It’s part of the effort to reduce the undergrowth to reduce fire danger later this year and to promote forest health.

Residents are asked NOT to call 911 next week regarding the smoke plume southeast of Bend, as it will be very noticeable.
