More than two-thousand people turned out at Summit High School this afternoon to hear Democratic Presidential candidate Barak Obama bring his “time for change” campaign to Bend. Obama stopped short of claiming victory for his party’s nomination, but did spend time comparing himself with Republican nominee John McCain. He also says it's important the Democratic party remain unified, stating a McCain presidency would essentially be a vote to retain policies of the Bush administration. If elected president he vows to stop the war in Iraq, plow more money into renewable energy, and wants to help students pay for higher education with vouchers. The proposal is to have students re-pay the government through volunteer work.
