  All Day 24th Annual Salmon Run   Registration is now open for the 24th annual Salmon Run on Saturday, May 5. The 2012 race features brand new single-loop 5K and 10K courses following the Deschutes River, beginning and ending at Riverbend Park in the Old Mill District. Young racers age 10 and under are invited to compete in the Little Fry run, part of the new “Kids Rock the Races” program. And this year, paddlers can also take part in the fun, learning to kayak and trying out top-of-the-line boats during Tumalo Creek’s Spring Paddlefest. Kick off the race season with this Bend tradition and support Bend’s beautiful natural environment, as a portion of the proceeds benefit the Environmental Center. New Course The 2012 Salmon Run course features an exciting new single-loop course for both the 10K and 5K races, kicking off at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. respectively. Racers will follow the salmon on a river-hugging course that runs along the Deschutes, passing native plants and wildlife along the way. Finishers will be greeted with a variety of booths, food and drinks, including 10 Barrel beer, Bellatazza coffee and Townshend’s Brew Dr. Kombucha. Spring Paddlefest Boating enthusiasts are invited to get out on the water during the Tumalo Creek Spring Paddlefest from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Participants can learn to kayak, paddleboard, or canoe, or spend a day on the Deschutes River trying out the boat of their dreams. Representatives from major kayak, canoe, and paddleboard companies will bring the latest models for paddlers to demo and will be on hand to answer questions. Attendees will receive a coupon towards 10% off one non-sale boat and 15% off one non-sale accessory item during the entire spring sale. Part of the new “Kids Rock the Races” program, kids will have the opportunity to have a race “passport” stamped at this and other Lay It Out Events races, earning prizes for participation.   All Day SMARTY Party   SMARTY Party, a fundraiser for SMART, Start Making A Reader Today will take place on Saturday, May 5, at 5 p.m. at the Old Stone Church located at 157 NW Franklin Avenue in Bend. Guests will enjoy books, beer and a bid for the cause to support SMART. Keynote Speaker is Jane Kirkpartrick. Admission is $10 or a donation of a new hardcover children’s book which will be utilized in school based permanent book collections.   All Day Cinco de Mayo Celebration   Cinco de Mayo and Festival of Flags celebrations will be at the Les Schwab Amphitheater. It's a family friendly cultural celebrations from 10-7pm. Proceeds will support Central Oregon Latino Scholarship Fund. Then then Amalia's Cinco de Mayo Party starts at 5pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the Old Mill www.bendconcerts.com
 
  All Day C R R Steel Stampede   6th Annual Crooked River Ranch Steel Stampede Vintage Motorcycle Rally is Saturday, May 5th in Crooked River Ranch west of the golf course, to benefit local clubs and organizations. The Trials Competition begins at 10am. The Highlander Golf Competition follows the Trials, and should begin around 2pm. Post Event Fiesta at The Big Dog Saloon starts about 5pm. Sunday, May 6th is the Scrambles (AKA--MotoCross). Racings starts at 9am
